Job summary

WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, WV seeks a patient care technician to provide nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The role supports admitted, transferred and discharged patients and assists with routine care, vital signs, hygiene, nutrition communication and safety in a busy hospital environment.

Scheduling includes 36 weekly hours in a non-exempt, on-site position.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire date.
• Must meet one of the following: Nationally certified patient care technician; Completion of WVUM Patient Care Technician program; Current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification issued by state where services are provided.

Responsibilities

• Observes and reports patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
• Assists the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
• Records vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures; records intake/output.
• Assists in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment to help prevent infections and ensure safety.
• Reports equipment repairs to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
• Prepares patients for examinations and procedures; communicates nutrition-related concerns to RN.
• Assists department with administrative tasks and answers patient call bells.
