Job summary

Nemours is hiring an Ophthalmology Technician for the Division of Neurology in Wilmington, DE. The role supports the neuro-ophthalmologist with patient care, conducts imaging tests such as OCT and fundus photography, and prepares patients for physician-led visits.

The technician will perform initial patient work-ups, handle ophthalmic imaging, and enter data into EPIC, contributing to efficient patient flow and high-quality care for pediatric patients.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Two years of satisfactory, full-time work experience under ophthalmologic or optometric supervision; or graduation from an accredited program for Ophthalmic Technicians plus one year work experience.
  • JCAHPO certification at COA/COT/COMT preferred with on-the-job training and COA testing within 12 months.
  • BLS certification within 60 days of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient history and perform initial patient assessment as directed
  • Perform diagnostic procedures
  • Instill topical medications into the eye
  • Enter clinical information into EPIC, the electronic medical record
  • Assist the physician with the neuro-ophthalmologic examination
  • Educate patients and families on procedures and care
  • Maintain patient-focused interactions and support efficient patient flow
  • Coordinate with the health care team to deliver optimal patient care.
