Job summary

Rhode Island Hospital seeks an experienced registered nurse to provide direct patient care on the night shift. You will lead by example, delegate tasks, and supervise ancillary staff to ensure safe, high-quality care across the patient’s stay.

You will collaborate with the healthcare team and family for discharge planning, assess learning needs, and participate in unit quality improvement efforts while maintaining essential certifications and ongoing education.

Qualifications

• RN licensure in Rhode Island or via Nurse Licensure Compact.
• Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred.
• NIHSS certification within 3 months of hire; stroke education annually (8 hours).

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care.
• Leads by delegating, supervising and participating in safe nursing care by ancillary staff.
• Evaluates effectiveness of patient care; identifies improvement opportunities.
• Collaborates with health care team, patient, family and community services on discharge planning.
• Assesses and provides teaching based on patient and family needs.
• Participates in unit-based quality improvement and research.
• Uses resources to provide quality, cost-effective care.
• Maintains competency via credentialing standards and safety education; completes BLS and ACLS/PALS as appropriate.
• Identifies growth needs and participates in educational opportunities and professional organizations.
• Serves as a preceptor to new graduates and less experienced staff.
• Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as delegated.
