Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Charge Nurse to lead nursing staff on the unit, assign patient care, manage throughput, and participate in staffing decisions. You will work with the Nurse Manager and HR on performance coaching and discipline while modeling excellence in clinical practice and patient satisfaction.

The role requires RN licensure in Kansas or Missouri with a BSN by hire or during tenure, and a preference for Master’s degree in Nursing.

Qualifications

• RN licensure in Kansas or Missouri (multistate)
• BSN required upon hire for nurses hired after Nov 1, 2025
• ADN nurses must enroll in BSN within 6 months of hire
• BSN to be completed by third anniversary of hire
• Master's degree preferred for advanced practice or leadership roles

Responsibilities

• Provide charge nurse responsibilities including assignments and throughput management.
• Manage patient care assignments based on needs of the unit.
• Assist with staff hiring, education and performance evaluation.
• Collaborate with Nurse Manager and HR on performance counseling and discipline.
• Instruct staff to ensure standards are met and monitor performance.
