Position Overview
As a Data Center Smart Hands Trainee, you will play a critical role in supporting and maintaining mission-critical IT infrastructure within a data center environment. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals seeking hands-on exposure to servers, networking equipment, hardware troubleshooting, and data center operations.
You will work alongside experienced engineers and technicians while developing the technical and professional skills needed to build a successful career in information technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve hardware issues involving servers, storage systems, and network equipment.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and elevate complex incidents when necessary.
- Assist with hardware replacements and equipment upgrades.
- Install, configure, and maintain servers, racks, network devices, and cabling infrastructure.
- Support routine preventive maintenance and operational activities within the data center.
Ticket & Incident Management
- Accurately document, track, update, and close service tickets in accordance with defined processes and SLAs.
- Maintain clear records of all support activities and resolutions.
- Work closely with engineers, technicians, and operations teams to resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to problem-solving initiatives.
Inventory & Asset Management
- Assist with tracking and managing hardware inventory.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment lifecycle, asset movement, and inventory status.
Moves, Adds, and Changes (MAC)
- Support data center projects involving hardware installations, rack-and-stack activities, labeling, cable management, and connectivity verification.
- Assist with equipment relocation and infrastructure modifications.
Compliance & Security
- Follow all data center security procedures and operational standards.
- Ensure proper documentation of activities, equipment changes, and access requirements.
- Adhere to company policies and industry best practices.
- Participate in technical training programs and certification initiatives.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends related to data center operations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Strong interest in IT infrastructure, networking, hardware support, and data center operations.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to learn and work in a dynamic, hands-on technical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of computer hardware, networking concepts, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Familiarity with hand tools, cabling standards, and IT equipment installation.
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, CCNA, or data center certifications are a plus.
- Previous internship, lab, or technical support experience is beneficial but not required.
Salary: Up to $50,000 per year, based on qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
