Job summary

The Greater Southern Tier BOCES is seeking a Network Technology Specialist or Trainee to maintain and expand district and host-site networks. The role covers LAN/WAN, telecom systems, and user support, with an emphasis on documentation and security practices.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in CS/IS or related field.
• Completion of 60 college credits with 15 in CS/IS.
• High school diploma with business certificate including CS coursework and credits or experience.
• Two years' experience in PC installation, support, LAN/WAN, or data communications.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Provides recommendations and creates requisitions to purchase hardware and software.
• Works with systems personnel establishing user and operations procedures.
• Maintains and supports LAN/WAN, regional telecom, telephone, and email systems.
• Documents maintenance and installations via ticketing and inventory systems.
• Configures, installs, maintains software and peripherals; provides training and support.
• Provides first-level end-user support for LAN-based applications.
• Assists with security auditing and enforcement of best practices.
• Supports end users in all areas of computer operations.
• Assists with user training on computer and software use.
• Provides timely maintenance in response to requests.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education

Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

60 college credits with 15 in CS/IS

High school diploma + one-year business certificate with 30 credits

High school diploma + two years experience in PC installation/support

Satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience
