Job summary

Oneida Innovations Group is seeking a Network Technician to ensure reliable LAN and WAN connectivity by installing, configuring, documenting, and maintaining network infrastructure. The role supports physical and logical connections, troubleshoots issues, and maintains accurate documentation of network configurations and policies.

The candidate should have a degree in computer science or equivalent experience, strong networking knowledge, and experience with multiple operating systems.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science or related field or 3+ years IT experience.
• Strong networking concepts, DNS, IP, routing, security knowledge.
• Proficient with multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux, UNIX variants).
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to meet deadlines.
• Professional, calm under pressure; able to work solo or in a team.
• Experience with OS, network hardware, and related tools; confidentiality.
• Willing to be on-call 24/7 as needed.

Responsibilities

• Ensure LAN/WAN connectivity for users and devices; document connections.
• Troubleshoot connectivity issues and verify proper configurations.
• Physically install and configure network hardware (switches, servers, wireless).
• Monitor connectivity feasibility and cabling requirements for installations.
• Assist in servicing malfunctioning network equipment.
• Assist with updates and maintenance on network gear and patch closets under supervision.
• Maintain detailed documentation of policies and procedural changes.

Job description

Summary: The Network Technician is responsible for ensuring reliable LAN and WAN connectivity by installing, configuring, documenting, and maintaining network infrastructure. This role supports physical and logical network connections, troubleshoots connectivity issues, assists with the installation and maintenance of network hardware, and helps service malfunctioning equipment. The Network Technician also monitors cabling requirements, supports updates and maintenance under supervisory guidance, and maintains accurate documentation of network configurations, policies, and procedural changes.

Position Responsibilities:

• Consistently provides connectivity to users and end devices throughout the LAN and WAN; including, but not limited to, the creation of cables and documentation of those connections.
• Effectively troubleshoots connectivity issues, ensuring the proper configuration of those connections, with assistance as necessary.
• Ensures physical installation and configuration of new network hardware, which may include switches, servers, and wireless devices.
• Monitors, reviews and verifies that physical connectivity can be achieved for required installation and requirements for cabling.
• Assists in servicing malfunctioning network equipment.
• Assists in applying updates and performing maintenance on network equipment and patch closets under the guidance of the Supervisor.
• Keeps detailed documentation of departmental policies and procedural changes.

Position Qualifications:

• A degree in Computer Science or related technical field and/or minimum equivalent experience of three years working in an IT environment.
• Possesses knowledge of Networking Concepts, such as DNS, Internet Protocol, other network protocols, Routing, Remote Access, cabling systems, wiring topologies, and security.
• Demonstrates knowledge of Operating Systems, such as Microsoft, Netware, AIX, Linux, Solaris, MAC, etc.
• Must have good organizational, verbal, and written communications skills. Ability to perform in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrates the ability to project a professional, positive, calm demeanor, while executing the essential duties of the position.
• Has the proven ability to work with Operating Systems technologies, Network Technologies, Hardware technologies, etc.
• Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple assignments.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
• Flexible and willingness to be on call 24/7.

Position Desired Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience working with gaming and/or hospitality systems.
• Certified Cisco Network Supervisor (CCNA) or technical equivalent in related discipline.
• Experience with Extreme/Avaya networking or SPBm.
• Experience with enterprise wireless solutions
• Certification and/or experience with Operating Systems such as Microsoft, Netware, AIX, Linux, Solaris, MAC, etc.
