Job summary

BCforward is seeking a Network / System Engineer II to join our Pennington, New Jersey team for a contract role lasting 10 months. The candidate will design, implement, and operate Linux-based infrastructure supporting a global risk management platform.

The role emphasizes Linux internals, automation, observability, and collaboration with global teams. Experience with Dynatrace, Splunk, and DevOps practices is preferred, with weekend/2nd shift coverage as part of the schedule.

Qualifications

• Linux OS internals and administration experience.
• Strong programming skills in Java and/or Python.
• Familiarity with ITIL methodologies and release management.
• Knowledge of SRE concepts and DevOps tools.
• Experience with observability tools such as Dynatrace and Splunk.
• Experience in Global Markets post-trade services.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Provide L3 support for a global risk management platform, including 2nd shift hours and rotational weekend coverage.
• Monitor and support Quartz Core environment components and dependent technologies.
• Design, implement, and manage end-to-end Linux-based infrastructure hosting databases and messaging platforms.
• Develop tools and automation to improve resiliency, scalability, and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure and application issues to prevent user impact.
• Contribute to release management, capacity planning, and disaster recovery planning.
• Collaborate with global teams and drive improvements.

Job Description

We are seeking a Network / System Engineer II to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Linux infrastructure, automation, and observability and a proven ability to support and enhance large-scale, mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide L3 support for a global risk management platform, including 2nd shift hours and rotational weekend coverage.
• Monitor and support Quartz Core environment components and dependent technologies.
• Design, implement, and manage end-to-end Linux-based infrastructure hosting databases, grid computing, job schedulers, and messaging platforms.
• Develop tools and automation to improve resiliency, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure and application issues proactively to prevent user impact.
• Contribute to release management, capacity planning, and disaster recovery planning.
• Collaborate with global teams, present improvement ideas, and drive implementations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Expertise in Linux OS internals and operational administration.
• Strong programming skills in Java or Python.
• Hands-on experience with IT infrastructure scheduled maintenance and production support.
• Solid understanding of SDLC, release management, and ITIL methodologies.
• Knowledge of SRE concepts and practical use of DevOps tools and technologies.
• Experience with observability tools, including Dynatrace and Splunk.
• Analytical problem-solving skills and experience in Global Markets post-trade services.
• Strong verbal and written communication and effective teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to Azure and AWS cloud services.
• Experience with enterprise job schedulers, messaging platforms, and grid computing.

Work Schedule & Onsite Expectations

• Second shift coverage with participation in an 8x7 shift rotation, including weekends as scheduled.
• Onsite 4 days per week for the first 6 months, then onsite 3 days per week per workplace guidelines.
