Job summary

The City of Murfreesboro is seeking an IT technician to install and support workstation, server, and network hardware and software. You will provide on-site, remote, and phone assistance to city staff and help maintain assets and budget proposals for technology needs.

Responsibilities include configuring routers and switches, testing software and hardware, and ensuring security and backup procedures are followed. A valid driver’s license is required for this role.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to install and support workstation hardware, server hardware and software, peripheral devices, and network devices.

Essential Functions

• Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
• Provides on-site maintenance of the PC based network computer systems, all telephone systems and other business systems and components as specified.
• Conducts routine diagnostic and preventative maintenance on-site for computer information systems and related equipment.
• Provides remote, phone, and on-site technical support to city employees.
• Maintains inventory of fixed assets, including computers and office equipment installed or removed within the department.
• Procures, configures, and supports office, desktop, and mobile technology.
• Monitors backup, anti-virus and security procedures.
• Assists in developing annual budget request for maintenance and recommends capital purchases for computer-related equipment.
• Installs printers and other devices, computer hardware and software; conducts updates on software.
• Troubleshoots network devices, hardware and software problems.
• Installs and configures network solutions such as routers, cable runs, and switch installation.
• Tests, evaluates and recommends software and hardware for purchase.
• Provides assistance on the city-wide information sharing network.
• Performs other work as assigned.

Physical Demands

• Performs work that involves walking or standing some of the time.
• Involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and sustained keyboard operations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Requires High School diploma or GED.
• Completion of one (1) year of college or any combination of equivalent training and experience in computer information systems or a closely related study.
• Must have two (2) years of experience in computer information systems maintenance and support.

Special Certifications and Licenses

• Must have a valid driver's license.
