Job description

Under the general supervision of the IT Director, this position is responsible for performing professional duties related to the administration of network and technology infrastructure security for County systems. Responsibilities include configuration and installation of new equipment, monitoring performance, implementing, maintaining, programming, and troubleshooting cybersecurity and electronic security systems. The role involves working with customers and vendors to analyze needs, prepare system specifications, and design plans for technology implementation.

This is a journey-level position in the Information Technology Department. The incumbent exercises a high degree of independence and leadership, assuming additional responsibilities, working independently, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines. Employees at this level require minimal instruction when handling new or unusual situations and are familiar with the unit's operating procedures and policies.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Any combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Typically:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, or a related field, or 4 years of relevant experience in computer operations, systems administration, network administration, or information security.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada Class ‘C’ Driver’s License.
  • Must pass a full criminal background check.
  • Criminal Justice Information System Level 4 certification within 1 month of hire.
  • CCNA or equivalent experience.
Typical Duties:
  1. Read and create network documentation.
  2. Design and implement networks, with extensive knowledge of TCP/IP and protocols like subnetting, DHCP, and static IP addressing.
  3. Configure, maintain, and deploy Cisco routers, security appliances, switches, and firewalls.
  4. Manage multiple Windows servers across networks, including permissions and maintenance, with knowledge of Active Directory and related services.
  5. Manage Microsoft Office 365 and Azure, including account synchronization, policy setting, email troubleshooting, and report generation.
  6. Manage email SPAM filters.
  7. Secure hardware devices and software from vendors such as Microsoft, VMWare, Barracuda, HP, Palo Alto, and mobile devices.
  8. Monitor and maintain security logging systems like Arctic Wolf, Windows servers, firewalls, and routers.
  9. Implement security practices for systems such as DNS, IIS, .NET Framework, and SQL Server, including configuration, support, and troubleshooting.
  10. Develop end-user security training.
  11. Analyze organizational data and workflows to recommend and implement security technology improvements.
  12. Respond to security system inquiries and diagnose hardware/software issues.
  13. Install, configure, and secure network hardware including servers, routers, switches, wireless devices, and firewalls.
