Job summary

HCL Technologies Limited is seeking an experienced network automation engineer to enhance enterprise networks in a complex, multi-cloud environment. You will develop backend and full-stack features using Python, Django, and PostgreSQL, and build REST/GraphQL APIs to automate operations across LAN/WAN/Data Center.

The role involves using Terraform/Ansible, containers with Docker/Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience supporting enterprise network environments across LAN, WAN, WLAN, Security, and Data Center technologies.
• Experience in network engineering / NOC / NRE / NetDevOps roles.
• Strong routing & switching knowledge (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, VLANs).
• Hands-on in Enterprise LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, Data Center (Nexus/ACI), WLAN, firewalls, or load balancers.
• Design, build, and maintain network automation with Python, Ansible, Terraform, Git, CI/CD.
• IaC for configuration and lifecycle management.
• Integrate workflows with NetBox/Nautobot and ServiceNow.
• Develop reusable modules, playbooks, and pipelines for provisioning and backups.
• Knowledge of Python network libraries (Netmiko, NAPALM, pyATS) is a plus.
• Git & CI/CD: branches and MR basics.
• Observability: monitoring with SolarWinds, Prometheus/Grafana, or Splunk.
• TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, QoS, troubleshooting complex network issues.

Technical Skills

• Experience in network engineering / NOC / NRE / NetDevOps roles.
• Core Networking: Strong in Routing & Switching (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, VLANs, VRFs, HSRP/VRRP, etc.).
• Network Domains: Hands-on in one or more areas – Enterprise LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, Data Center (Nexus/ACI), WLAN, firewalls, or load balancers.
• Automation & NetDevOps:
• Design, build, and maintain network automation using Python, Ansible, Terraform, Git, CI/CD.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for configuration and lifecycle management.
• Integrate workflows with Source of Truth (NetBox/Nautobot) and ITSM tools (ServiceNow).
• Develop reusable modules, playbooks, and pipelines for provisioning, upgrades, backups, and compliance.
• Use Python with network libraries (Netmiko, NAPALM, pyATS, etc. as a plus).
• Git & CI/CD: Comfortable with Git (branches, merge requests) and basic CI/CD pipelines.
• Observability: Experience with at least one monitoring stack (SolarWinds, Cisco DNAC, ThousandEyes, Prometheus/Grafana, Splunk/ELK, etc.).
• Protocols & Troubleshooting: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, QoS, and proven ability to troubleshoot complex network issues under pressure.
• Work closely with network architects, operations, SRE, and application teams to embed reliability by design.
• Contribute to network design reviews focusing on resilience, failure domains, capacity, and automation readiness.
• Create and maintain runbooks, playbooks, and documentation for ops teams.
• Mentor engineers on NetDevOps, automation, and reliability best practices.

Compensation and Benefits

A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law.
