Insight Global is seeking an experienced OSP Bandwidth Augmentation Planner to support the planning and development of telecommunications infrastructure projects that expand network capacity, improve service reliability, and enable customer growth.
This role is responsible for identifying capacity constraints within the outside plant (OSP) network, developing augmentation strategies, preparing planning-level scopes and cost estimates, and coordinating the transition of approved projects into engineering and construction. The ideal candidate will possess strong telecommunications planning experience, a deep understanding of fiber network infrastructure, and the ability to evaluate multiple solutions and recommend the most cost-effective path forward.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze network utilization, customer demand, service growth, and capacity data to identify augmentation opportunities and capacity constraints.
- Develop OSP planning solutions involving fiber reinforcement, network expansion, and infrastructure upgrades to support future growth.
- Coordinate with internal planning and engineering stakeholders to validate network capacity assumptions and support augmentation recommendations.
- Evaluate existing fiber routes, conduit systems, pole lines, splice locations, terminals, cabinets, and related infrastructure to determine optimal reinforcement strategies.
- Develop planning-level project scopes, business justifications, and cost estimates using applicable planning and estimating tools.
- Support project funding requests and assist with approval processes for proposed network expansion initiatives.
- Prepare project narratives and engineering handoff documentation that clearly define scope, assumptions, constraints, dependencies, and expected outcomes.
- Collaborate with engineering, construction, operations, and implementation teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide planning support to resolve issues related to field conditions, design modifications, and project cost impacts.
- Maintain project documentation and communicate risks, dependencies, and status updates to stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in telecommunications outside plant (OSP) planning, network engineering, infrastructure planning, or related telecommunications disciplines.
- Working knowledge of fiber network architecture, fiber route design, and access network infrastructure.
- Ability to interpret network records, engineering drawings, facility assignments, maps, capacity reports, and utilization data.
- Experience evaluating capacity constraints and developing recommendations for network augmentation or expansion.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to compare multiple planning alternatives and identify cost-effective solutions.
- Experience preparing project scopes, planning documentation, and cost estimates.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience collaborating across engineering, operations, construction, and vendor organizations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other planning, workflow, mapping, or financial systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in OSP fiber planning, access network planning, OSP engineering, or telecommunications infrastructure delivery.
- Experience supporting bandwidth augmentation, capacity relief, fiber reinforcement, network growth, or infrastructure expansion initiatives.
- Understanding of permitting, right-of-way processes, make-ready engineering, and aerial, underground, and buried fiber construction methods.
- Familiarity with broadband, Ethernet, transport, PON, DSL, or other access technologies that impact network capacity planning.
- Experience supporting large-scale telecommunications network modernization or expansion programs.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate combines strong network planning expertise with a project-oriented mindset. They are comfortable evaluating capacity challenges, developing practical augmentation strategies, preparing cost estimates, and partnering with engineering and construction teams to move projects from concept through execution. Success in this role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across multiple stakeholder groups.
