Network Install Technician, DCC Communities

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an Infrastructure Delivery Install Technician to join our expanding infrastructure operations team. Our team handles server and network equipment installation, structured cabling, project work, and capacity management. The technician will also be involved in installing and troubleshooting structured cabling, managing infrastructure inventory, physically installing network and server racks or devices, and coordinating with data center vendors. This position considers all locations we hire for in Arizona, and requires reporting to a site location.

You will work in a dynamic environment to enhance the stability and scalability of our next-generation networks, develop automation solutions, and deploy advanced server technologies. A good understanding of hardware and software aspects of computers, servers, switches, and networking devices, along with a willingness to learn new technologies, is essential.

Success in this role requires technical aptitude, strong communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. You should leverage your experience with initiative, judgment, and diplomacy.

Note: Amazon does not sponsor immigration visas, including H-1B and TN. A lump sum stipend is available for eligible candidates relocating for this role.

AWS Infrastructure Services manages the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS's global infrastructure, supporting data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. Our team faces complex challenges involving supply chain variables and strives to maintain high standards for safety and security, providing extensive capacity at optimized costs.

You will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers, fostering an inclusive culture that encourages innovation and ownership.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Partner with cable vendors to install, inspect, and troubleshoot cabling
  2. Install and maintain copper and fiber cable infrastructure
  3. Test and troubleshoot fiber optic and copper cabling, including patch panels and cords
  4. Ensure compliance with installation practices during data center and vendor installations
  5. Report status via ticketing systems, emails, and Slack
  6. Manage work priorities through ticketing systems and workflows
  7. Maintain accurate records and document issues and processes
  8. Exhibit quality workmanship and maintain site cleanliness
  9. Assist in moving enterprise equipment from loading docks to planned positions
  10. Manage materials delivery to the site daily
  11. Carry a cell phone for communication and emergencies
  12. Travel up to 50% within the geographic area, with potential for outside-area travel

Physical requirements (with accommodations)

  • Walk uneven terrain at job sites
  • Work safely at heights and from ladders
  • Work on your feet during site walks and installation tasks for an 8-hour shift
  • Lift/move up to 40 pounds; participate in group lifts for heavier loads
  • Support 24/7 operations and after-hours support as needed

Minimum qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or relevant certifications (CCENT, Network+, CCNA)
  • At least 2 years in a data center or critical environment
  • At least 2 years of experience with network cabling, optic types, and testing equipment (VFL, power meter, OTDR)
  • At least 2 years of experience with Ethernet and IP networking
  • Experience working in virtualized enterprise networking environments
  • Familiarity with IT best practice frameworks (ITIL, LEAN, AGILE)
  • Alignment with Amazon’s leadership principles and technical complexity requirements
