Job description

Network Engineer (Juniper Migration Project) (W2 Only)

Location: Charlotte, NC (100% Remote Eligible)
Schedule: Standard Business Hours with Occasional Evening/Overnight Maintenance Windows

Overview We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support a large-scale network modernization and hardware refresh initiative. This position will play a critical role in migrating services from legacy network infrastructure to next-generation platforms within a complex service provider environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys owning projects from planning through execution and has hands‑on experience performing network migrations in ISP, telecommunications, cable, carrier, or large-scale service provider environments.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing router and switch configurations and develop migration strategies.

  • Create detailed Method of Procedure (MOP) and implementation documentation.

  • Develop replacement configurations and migration plans for new network platforms.

  • Execute network migrations, cutovers, and production changes during scheduled maintenance windows.

  • Support large-scale EOS/EOL (End-of-Support/End-of-Life) network refresh initiatives.

  • Coordinate activities with engineering, operations, field technicians, staging teams, and third‑party providers.

  • Troubleshoot routing, switching, and service migration issues in production environments.

  • Manage multiple migration projects simultaneously while meeting aggressive project timelines.

  • Participate in peer reviews and change management processes.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of network engineering experience within a service provider, ISP, telecommunications, cable, or carrier environment.

  • Hands‑on experience with Juniper networking platforms, including:

    • MX Series

    • ACX Series

    • QFX Series

  • Strong routing and switching expertise, including:

    • BGP

    • OSPF

    • IS‑IS

    • MPLS

    • VLANs

  • Experience planning and executing network migrations, hardware refreshes, or platform replacement projects.

  • Experience creating and executing MOPs/MOFs and production change procedures.

  • Ability to independently analyze existing configurations and develop replacement configurations.

  • Experience performing customer migrations, maintenance windows, and production cutovers.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills within complex routed environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large-scale network modernization projects.

  • Experience with Cisco and Nokia networking platforms.

  • Knowledge of Cisco ASR, 7600, or 9000 series equipment.

  • Experience with Nokia 7210 and 7750 platforms.

  • Familiarity with network inventory or provisioning tools such as Granite.

  • Project management or project coordination experience.

  • Experience working with implementation, provisioning, or network operations teams.

What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who can quickly contribute with minimal onboarding and training. This is not a playbook‑driven role. Successful engineers in this position are comfortable reviewing existing configurations, determining migration requirements, building implementation plans from scratch, and ultimately owning migrations from planning through execution.

Preferred Certifications

  • Juniper Networks Certified Professional (JNCIP)

  • Juniper Networks Certified Specialist (JNCIS)

  • Cisco CCNP Enterprise

  • Cisco CCNP Service Provider

  • Cisco CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure
