Job summary

The University of California, Berkeley is seeking a Network Engineer to ensure the performance and resiliency of the Berkeley Seismological Laboratory's network infrastructure. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent experience.
  • Expert understanding of OSI layer 2/3 networking protocols.
  • Hands-on with networking hardware installations & maintenance.
  • Experience with network monitoring and performance tools.
  • Experience with network management systems and automation.
  • Experience with Linux administration and scripting.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain networking equipment and configurations to support data flow from 200+ remote field stations to data centers and AWS. Ensure secure data communications and develop monitoring tools.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, coordinate with collaborators and service providers; assist with Linux data acquisition software.
  • Manage security and firmware of equipment; work with vendors to resolve hardware/config issues; configure Linux-based services.
  • Review data flow needs; coordinate complex network projects from design to deployment and documentation; evaluate new network solutions.
  • Provide expert advice on network solutions and collaborate with other units on cross-disciplinary efforts.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
