Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of progressive network administration and security experience in high-availability, enterprise-scale environments.
• Expertise with WAN/LAN infrastructure, cloud architectures, data centers, and disaster recovery planning.
• Proficiency in networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, IPsec; OSPF/BGP/EIGRP; MPLS; SD-WAN; VLANs).
• Strong firewall knowledge (Sophos); experience with Meraki, Cisco hardware.

Responsibilities

Akkodis is seeking a Lead Network Engineer-for a Contract job with a client in San Bernardino, CA

EMPLOYMENT TYPE/DURATION: $60-$65/hour – The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

CONTRACT TO HIRE ROLE – 6 months

ABOUT THE ROLE:

• Enterprise LAN/WAN, and data communication networks.
• Proficiency in networking protocols and technologies: TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, IPsec, Dynamic Routing (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), MPLS, SDWAN, and VLAN’s.

Position Summary-Engineer and support the enterprise-level Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure for Client and its member agencies. Performs related duties as assigned to ensure the availability, security, and performance of mission‑critical systems supporting communications.

Distinguishing Characteristics-This classification operates . The incumbent provides advanced technical expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining WAN and LAN environments that support 24/7 emergency communications for Client and its member agencies. The position may serve as a technical lead on complex, multi‑agency infrastructure projects that impact system‑wide connectivity, interoperability, and cybersecurity. The role also includes guiding and supporting technical staff in resolving escalated network issues and executing infrastructure improvements that ensure continuous operational readiness across all Client‑supported environments.

Examples of Duties

• Simultaneously leads multiple projects that focus on maintaining and improving the enterprise network, including supporting the existing network environment with the goal of following best practices and policy.
• Performs enterprise networking utilizing industry best practices and methodologies.
• Participates in the conceptual design phase of application development hosting to clarify department needs, security, and define technical problems of the hosting solution.
• Participates in the implementation and maintenance of new systems, including data center‑hosted and cloud technologies.
• Develops and coordinates operational plans for network support activities, ensuring it resources are effectively aligned to meet the needs of client and its member agencies. Implement and test Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans.
• Collaborates with multiple agencies and their subject matter experts in the gathering of technical requirements for system implementations; documents vendor requirements, security risks, and understand system interoperability and potential impact to the WAN/LAN.
• Architects scalable infrastructure solutions to support Client systems,ensures alignment with enterprise standards and evaluates impacts to WAN performance.
• Provide connectivity to multiple data centers network and clouds using industry standards for transport encryption and security.
• Relevant certifications such as CCNA or CCNP credentials are preferred.
• Experience
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in network administration and security, with expertise in high‑availability, enterprise‑scale environments, including cloud architectures, business systems, server technologies, and communication systems.

• Scripting or automation skills using tools like Python or PowerShell are advantageous.
• Experience with intrusion detection, remediation, and general cybersecurity.
