Job summary

Motion Recruitment Partners is seeking a Network Engineer for a 1-year contract in Palo, Iowa. The role focuses on hands-on Cisco routing/switching, VLANs, STP, EtherChannel, OSPF, and robust documentation.

You will work on-site in a mission-critical environment, following MOPs and change management, performing rack/stack tasks, and coordinating with remote architects and senior engineers. On-site only with potential for extension.

Qualifications

• Proven Cisco networking expertise (IOS/NX-OS) with VLAN/trunking, STP, and ACLs.
• Hands-on hardware experience: racking, cabling, SFP/fiber, data-center work.
• Knowledge of MOPs and change management in a mission-critical environment.

Responsibilities

• Strong Cisco routing/switching: VLANs, trunks, STP, EtherChannel, OSPF, TCP/IP, subnetting, ACLs and basic redundancy.
• Hands-on deployment: rack/stack, switch turn-ups, replacements, configurations, migrations, cutovers.
• Troubleshoot Layer 1–3 issues including fiber, cabling, switch ports, and connectivity problems.
• Execute MOPs/change plans, participate in maintenance windows, document results.
• Support network refreshes, site builds, migrations, or other deployments.

Job description

Our client is a trusted IT infrastructure and managed services provider serving enterprise customers worldwide. Based out of Palo Iowa, they are looking to hire a Network Engineer on a Contract basis.

Contract Duration: 1 Year Contract (Potential for extension or conversion to FT)

Required Skills & Experience

• Core Networking: Demonstrated expertise in Cisco IOS/NX-OS, including VLAN configuration, trunking protocols, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), EtherChannel/LACP, OSPF, TCP/IP fundamentals, subnetting, and robust Access Control List (ACL) management.
• Physical Infrastructure (Hands-on): Practical, physical experience with racking/stacking, hardware replacement, cable management, and SFP/fiber handling. Must be comfortable and capable of working in hardware closets or data centers.
• Operational Discipline: Proven ability to follow established Method of Procedures (MOPs) and change management plans precisely. The candidate must have experience participating in maintenance windows and understand the impact of errors in a mission-critical environment.
• Documentation: High proficiency in maintaining "as-built" documentation, updating Visio diagrams, and managing IP/VLAN tracking databases.
• Independence & Communication: Ability to function as an on-site representative who can translate project goals into physical execution while maintaining clear, proactive communication with remote architects and senior engineers.

Daily Responsibilities

• Strong Cisco routing/switching: VLANs, trunks, STP, EtherChannel, OSPF, TCP/IP, subnetting, ACLs and basic redundancy.
• Hands-on deployment experience: rack/stack, switch turn-ups, replacements, configuration, migrations, cutovers and validation.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across Layer 1–3, including fiber/SFPs, cabling, switch ports and packet/connectivity problems.
• Ability to execute MOPs/change plans, participate in maintenance windows and document results.
• Experience with network refreshes, site builds, migrations or other project-based infrastructure deployments.
• Ability to update Visio/network diagrams, IP/VLAN records, port assignments and as-built documentation.
• Comfortable working independently onsite while coordinating with remote architects and senior engineers.
• Strong operational discipline because of the controlled nuclear-site environment.
