Job Title: Network Design Engineer

Duration: 12 Months

Location: Tulsa, OK Job Description:

The person in this role will be responsible for implementing and managing the LD and Local network infrastructure capacity. The individual must be able to handle escalations and possess the ability to troubleshoot. The individual in this position will analyze the telecommunications requirements of the organization and work to develop, improve, maintain, and implement telecommunications technologies. The ideal candidate must be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures and rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals set forth by management. The individual must have a broad understanding of telecom and wide area network technologies and is expected to perform a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

The individual will be responsible for implementing and managing the telemetry and alarming platforms for network equipment elements terminated at or passing through LD and/or Local facilities. The individual will be responsible for all LD and Local installations, decommissions, system rolls and manual updates to address data integrity issues encountered as the result of an outage, NOC move or redline in the field to insure that the field and the provisioning databases are in sync. The purpose of these implementations is to reduce equipment related outages, provide spare inventory, remove MDE and increase line cost savings for Verizon while minimizing Customer impact. Associates have both Topology and Design familiarity and expertise with all stated systems as a requirement, due to the use of highly technical engineering specs and drawings with cross-provisioned requirements for the candidate circuit pool allocation.

Associate researches a pool of systems/equipment, provided by Verizon, to identify the correct systems/equipment ID and all related IDs in the Verizon provisioning systems for accuracy and data integrity. The associate then takes the appropriate steps to work and complete the CCR/Project issued, so that Verizon realizes savings and/or increase in revenue.

Responsibilities
  • Prioritize the installation of equipment and/or CCR/Projects, as directed by Verizon.
  • Conduct research by utilizing the following systems in order to provision and install the equipment. These systems include, but are not limited to: BGW, ICON, CCP, Venue, CoFEE, EMS, VeNoM, TeMIP, NetCONFIG, Impact, Netsmart, One Control and other various NMS and EMS platforms.
  • All research findings of all pending systems/equipment are recorded in a tracking system designated by Verizon Business.
  • For systems and/or equipment that should be Installed, Groomed/Rolled or Disconnected the associate:
  • Install/Update/Remove all Network Elements on the Alarming Platforms
  • a) Log into the actual equipment using the IP/TID, etc…
  • b) Enter user accounts for each platform to log into; link each piece of equipment to the respective platform
  • c) Test connectivity to each platform
  • d) Enter the channelization (If available at the time of pre-build)
  • e) Notifies NIT/Field/NOC to test alarming
  • Verify completion of Install/Update/Removal of Equipment Inventory from the field and/or database
  • a) Associate is responsible for tracking the systems/equipment through to completion, including monitoring the activity transmitted to and received from the field and remote install tech throughout the order or project process.
  • b) Associate continues to monitor completed orders or project until such time it can be verified as ready for traffic or decommissioned with queue completed in CCP.
  • c) If a newly installed /rolled / decommissioned circuit or system is does not completed correctly, the associate has not completed the task and is required to rectify the orders until it is verified ready for traffic or decommissioned with queue completed in CCP.
  • Associate verifies Engineering is according to CCR/Project specifications and/or Drawings
  • a) Receives Test Completion Notification
  • b) Double check everything; including any and all corrections
  • c) Change to Traffic/RFT
  • d) Enter the channelization (If not entered at the time of pre-build)
  • Associate completes the queue in CCP
Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of SONET/SDH and fiber optic transport
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with telemetry and alarming
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Access
  • Working knowledge of legacy network operating systems
  • B.S. degree in a related technical field or relevant experience
  • 5-7 years of Telecom Experience
  • Experience with vendor equipment preferred to include, but not limited to: Cisco, Ciena, Fujitsu, Nortel transport equipment, as well as Adtran, Tellabs and other equipment to support work on Sonet/SDH, OTN, ULH and WDM equipment, Environmental Alarms and more.
  • Experience with systems and platforms preferred to include, but not limited to: BGW, ICON, CCP, Venue, CoFEE, EMS, VeNoM, TeMIP, NetCONFIG, Impact, Netsmart, One Control and other various NMS and EMS platforms to conduct research, troubleshoot, load, configure and install/update/remove equipment.
