Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Network Technician to join our infrastructure operations team in Oregon. You will work to drive stability and scalability across our next‑generation networks and help automate and scale operations.

Your daily duties include migrating and configuring hardware, managing requests via a ticketing system, and collaborating with Network Engineering to ensure fast, smooth rollout of established designs and products.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of computer networking experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience working with Linux operating systems.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the migration, basic configuration and rollout of new or upgraded hardware.
  • Manage work and priorities through ticketing system and workflows to complete customer requests and projects.
  • Troubleshoot networking, routing and inter connectivity issues, including device configuration.

Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Network Technician to join our growing team within infrastructure operations. You will work in a dynamic environment to drive the stability and sustainability of our next‑generation networks and assist in the development of innovative ways to automate and scale our network.

The position's responsibilities include scaling support of several data centre locations and day‑to‑day assistance with capacity management. Our ideal candidate is sufficiently autonomous, detail‑oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and has some experience in supporting large scale, enterprise‑class networks. Network implementation and troubleshooting skills combined with a proven documentation methodology is also a requirement.

You will leverage your experience supporting large scale, enterprise‑class networks as well as network implementation and troubleshooting. As a Network Technician you will work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment with regular peer and customer interaction. In addition to providing management and support of Amazon Web Services vast network infrastructure, Network Technicians establish and follow best practices and refine operational procedures.

Daily Responsibilities Include
  • Participate in the migration, basic configuration and rollout of new or upgraded hardware.
  • Manage work and priorities through ticketing system and workflows to complete customer requests and projects.
  • Work closely with our Network Engineering & Network Technical Project Manager teams to ensure fast, smooth rollout of established designs and products.
  • Troubleshoot networking, routing and inter connectivity issues, including troubleshooting of network device configuration and low level application interaction.
  • Up to 20% travel within geographical work area may be required. Some travel outside traditional work area may be requested.
  • Troubleshooting cabling infrastructure connectivity issues, including patch panels and patch cords.

  • Experience dealing with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure
  • Effective prioritization and time management
Physical requirements
  • The ability to sit in front of computer for entire scheduled 8-hour shift with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; and participate in group lifts for 41 pounds or more
  • Walk job sites in uneven terrain
  • Work safely at heights and from ladders
Key job responsibilities
  • Strategic Planning & Design Management
  • Contribute in developing comprehensive 6-8 months network implementation roadmaps aligned with AWS DC expansion targets
  • Create and optimize network position layouts and rack placement strategies for data centre floor space utilization
  • Review and contribute to High-Level Design (HLD) documentation
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to validate technical requirements and design specifications
  • Develop capacity planning models to ensure infrastructure scalability
  • Create standardized planning templates and methodologies for network implementations
  • Project & Resource Management
  • Lead end-to-end project planning for multiple concurrent network implementation initiatives
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, milestones, and dependencies
  • Manage project scope, and quality parameters
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies
  • Improvise and optimize planning by incorporating lessons learnt of latest deployed projects, iteratively.
  • Coordinate across cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on project deliverables
  • Track and report weekly project progress and/or otherwise informed to key stakeholders
  • Supply Chain & Inventory Planning
  • Develop project inventory forecasts and requirements
  • Optimize developed counts by utilizing prior surplus spares.
  • Coordinate with procurement teams for strategic resource acquisition
  • Manage vendor relationships and delivery schedules
  • Establish and stick to procurement timelines aligned with project schedules
  • Program Governance & Process Excellence
  • Establish and maintain project management frameworks and best practices
  • Develop sustainable and repeatable planning processes
  • Create and maintain project documentation and reporting standards
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in planning methodologies
  • Build and maintain stakeholder communication channels
  • Coordinate with regional teams for standardized planning approaches and optimized lesson learnt based iterative optimized planning.
Basic Qualifications
  • 1+ years of computer networking experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
