Job summary

DRW, a diversified trading firm, seeks a Systems Software Engineer for its Network Capture Services team in Chicago. You’ll build and operate the firm’s network capture platform, writing code in C++, Python, Rust, and Ruby, while also doing substantial systems work with Ansible, data centers, and deployments.

You’ll regularly coordinate with data center, network, and infrastructure teams and contribute across the project lifecycle, with ownership over what you deploy.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional systems software engineering experience with a systems language such as Rust, C/C++, or Go.
• Experience with DPDK or kernel-bypass packet processing concepts (hugepages, CPU pinning, NUMA).
• Strong Linux skills and production server troubleshooting.
• Solid networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, NICs, packet analysis).
• Experience with Ansible or similar configuration management.
• Ability to coordinate across infrastructure teams and drive follow-through.
• Git, CI/CD pipelines, and package management experience; Kubernetes and GitOps a plus.
• Scripting skills in Bash, Python, Ruby, or similar.
• Focus on testing, reliability, scalability, and maintainability in systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and validate network capture servers across teams.
• Develop and maintain capture and query software (C++, Python, Rust, Ruby) with emphasis on testing and performance.
• Build Ansible automation and deployment tooling for repeatable capture server provisioning.
• Participate in weekly production support rotations; troubleshoot live capture issues and coordinate incident response.
• Onboard new deployments and liaise with infrastructure teams to ensure smooth operation.
