Job summary

DRW in Chicago is seeking a Systems Software Engineer to design, build, and operate the firm's network capture platform. You will work on software in C++, Python, Rust, and Ruby, plus infrastructure tasks like Ansible automation and deployment across data centers.

You’ll join a team that values ownership, breadth of responsibilities, and a hands-on approach to reliability, scalability, and performance. Based in Chicago headquarters.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional systems software engineering experience.
• Strong skills in a systems language such as Rust, C/C++, or Go.
• Experience with DPDK or kernel-bypass packet processing.
• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Solid networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and GitOps tooling.
• Scripting in Bash or Python.
• Ability to work across infrastructure teams.

Responsibilities

• Designing, building, deploying, and validating network capture servers across teams.
• Developing capture and query software (C++, Python, Rust, Ruby) with emphasis on testing and performance.
• Building Ansible automation and deployment tooling for capture servers.
• Participating in weekly production support rotations and incident response.
• Improving automation, monitoring, and capacity planning; pushing proposals to production.
• Onboarding new deployments with stakeholder teams.
• Liaising between Network Capture Services and infrastructure teams.
