Job summary

Bedford Public Schools (MA) seeks a Network and Server Engineer to install, repair, and troubleshoot computers and peripherals across district sites. The role reports to the Director of Information Systems and covers a 12-month term with responsibilities for maintaining servers and network infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Microsoft operating systems, TCP/IP networking, and security management, plus the ability to work with stakeholders to keep district

Responsibilities

• Maintain and monitor all servers and networking equipment.
• Back up all server data and maintain inventories.
• Design and implement network infrastructure for district continuity.
• Manage network security, including antivirus and intrusion protection.
• Coordinate with facilities and stakeholders to resolve issues promptly.
• Ensure service levels and report usage on a scheduled basis.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Information Officer.

Work Year:

12 month position.

Salary and Benefits:

Performance Responsibilities

• Maintain and monitor all servers and networking equipment.
• Perform network and system administration functions that include, but are not limited to:
• Backing up of all server data
• Maintain equipment server and networking inventories
• Maintain wired and wireless network infrastructure
• Manage replacement schedule for all servers and network equipment
• Operate and maintain internet connections, Email systems, and firewall.
• Manage network security including anti-virus, spyware and intrusion software and devices.
• Manage accounts to access core district services.
• Design and implement network infrastructure to ensure continuity of services for the district.
• Maintain relationships with other town entities to ensure school needs are met and issues fixed in a timely fashion.
• Regularly evaluate current network and server technology to determine sufficiency for district needs.
• Track and report on the usage of systems on a scheduled basis.
• Troubleshoot and repair network outages and configuration problems.
• Maintain a working knowledge of special networks and connectivity to support the HVAC and building security communication as required by the Facilities department.
• Develop and implement a toolset for technical staff to improve day-to-day workflow and time to resolution for tech tickets.
• Forensic style investigation of incidents including, but not limited to, network techniques and file level investigation.
• Forecast, plan, and implement needs through tools and industry input to keep district network and servers running and sufficient in capacity.
• Look at district processes and recommend automation. Meet with stakeholders to facilitate move to automated processes freeing up staff resources.
• Perform any other such duties as may be assigned by the Chief Information Officer.
