Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient nephrology services.
• Evaluate and manage AKI, CKD, ESKD, fluid/electrolyte disorders, hypertension, and nephrolithiasis.
• Oversee kidney replacement therapies: hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and CRRT.
• Perform inpatient and outpatient nephrology consultations and bedside rounds.
• Document care in EMR and participate in shared call rotations.

Nephrologist – Contract Position

Contract Role

This is a contract position providing specialized nephrology care to Veterans within a supportive, team‑based clinical environment.

Overview

You will work alongside an established medical team, managing a balanced inpatient and outpatient caseload with shared call responsibilities. This role offers a consistent weekday schedule and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Veteran health and overall care delivery.

Required Qualifications

• Doctorate degree
• Valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration
• ANY of the following valid licenses/certifications:
  • Board Eligible
  • Board Certified

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in ANY of the following:
  • Dialysis Care
  • Dialysis
  • Nephrology/Dialysis

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient nephrology services
• Evaluate and manage:
  • Acute kidney injury
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • End‑stage kidney disease
  • Fluid and electrolyte disorders
  • Hypertension
  • Nephrolithiasis
  • Kidney transplant patients
• Manage kidney replacement therapies, including:
  • Hemodialysis
  • Peritoneal dialysis
  • Continuous and prolonged intermittent kidney replacement therapy
• Provide dialysis oversight, including vascular access management and complication monitoring
• Perform inpatient and outpatient nephrology consultations
• Conduct bedside consultations for non‑ambulatory patients and clinic consultations for ambulatory patients
• Deliver follow‑up care and discharge education
• Participate in shared physician call rotation
• Provide telephone consultation to physicians and residents while on call
• Respond to urgent call‑back needs as required
• Document patient care in the electronic medical record

Schedule & Shift Details

• Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
• Approximately 40 hours per week of on‑site clinical coverage
• Shared after‑hours call coverage with 2–3 nephrologists
• Weeknight call: 4:30 PM–8:00 AM
• Weekend call: Friday 4:30 PM through Monday 8:00 AM
• Holiday call coverage required
• On‑call physicians must be available by phone within 15 minutes and on‑site within 60 minutes for urgent call‑backs

Pay Transparency Compensation varies based on location, experience, and performance. Some sites require disclosure of pay and benefits. This role may also be eligible for bonuses or incentives depending on business needs.
