Job summary

Egis is seeking an Environmental Planning Practice Leader (NEPA | Highways | Rail & Transit) in Illinois to drive growth and technical excellence of the environmental services practice across the Midwest. This senior leader will oversee EIS/EA/CE projects, manage client relationships, and mentor a multidisciplinary team.

You will shape NEPA strategy, coordinate with agencies (FRA, FTA, IDOT), ensure regulatory compliance, and lead major rail and transit programs while advancing sustainable

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required with Master’s preferred.
• 20+ years of progressive experience in environmental planning with a strong NEPA focus.
• Demonstrated expertise delivering rail and transit projects (corridors, stations, expansions).
• Deep knowledge of FRA and FTA NEPA processes and Illinois regulatory environment (IDOT, CMAP, local agencies).
• Proven track record leading high-performing teams and winning major projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Environmental Planning/NEPA practice in Illinois and surrounding markets.
• Provide senior oversight for EIS/EA/CE projects and lead complex NEPA efforts for rail and transit programs.
• Develop strategic business plans and capture strategies with agency clients (FRA, FTA, IDOT, CTA, Metra, Pace).
• Mentor multidisciplinary teams and foster technical excellence and collaboration.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with planning, engineering, and permitting.
