Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a highly trained Respiratory Care Specialist to join the MedCenter Air transport team. You will provide advanced patient care during transport, including airway management, ventilator support, and bridging care between ground, air, and flight crews.

The role requires extensive certifications, trauma and critical care experience, and participation in ongoing education to maintain CAMTS standards, with a focus on safety and high-quality patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of respiratory care.
• Current RT license or temporary license as a registered petitioner in the working and residential state.
• RRT required, BSRT preferred.
• BLS required.
• Three years clinical respiratory care experience in the Emergency Department and/or Intensive Care Unit required.
• Paramedic Certification required within 2 years of hire; must acquire NC EMT-P, SC EMT-P and National Registry.
• Trauma Certification, ACLS, PALS, NRP and S.T.A.B.L.E. required upon orientation completion.
• Advanced certification to include ACCS or equivalent; CAMTS standards apply.
• Aviation training or flight status required; Night Vision Goggles may be needed.
• Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable for MedCenter Air vehicles.
• Operational smartphone for MedCenter Air communications.
• Annual compliance in education related to specialty area.

Responsibilities

• Collects data pertinent to the healthcare consumer's health or the situation.
• Uses clinical reasoning and skills to conduct accurate assessments and patient care.
• Delegates elements of care to appropriate healthcare workers.
• Utilizes resources to provide safe, effective and financially responsible services.
• Participates in committees, governance, or other decision-making activities.
• Maintains operational knowledge for ambulances, helicopters and airplanes.
• Initiates advanced practice procedures to improve outcomes (e.g., drug assisted intubation, video laryngoscopy, chest procedures, central lines, IO, pacing, and pharmacologic titration).
• Initiates intubation and sets up ventilation equipment; manages airway and ventilator settings.
• Transports and monitors patients requiring ECMO, VAD/Impella, IABP, pacing, ventriculostomy, and point-of-care.

Education

Graduate from an accredited school of respiratory care

Current RT license or temporary license

RRT required, BSRT preferred

BLS required

Three years clinical respiratory care experience in ED/ICU

Paramedic Certification required within 2 years of hire
