Job summary

Parkland Health is seeking a Registered Nurse in the Newborn Nursery to coordinate patient care within the health care team and nurse-driven processes. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care using the nursing process, ensuring safe transitions and minimizing delays for newborn patients.

The position requires Texas RN license (or compact), BLS certification, NRP upon hire, and at least two years of nursing experience. A strong emphasis on patient advocacy and education is essential.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Two years of nursing experience required.
  • RN license in Texas or compact license; BLS required; NRP certification upon hire; may require specialty certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a patient advocate focusing on patient rights, confidentiality, and cultural preferences.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, policies, and guidelines to ensure compliance.
  • Perform patient assessments, monitor changes, and implement necessary interventions.
  • Support breastfeeding and provide newborn care education to families.
  • Document accurately in patient care records and hospital systems.
  • Provide direction to non-nursing staff and se rve as Charge Nurse on rotation.
  • Precept or train newer nursing staff; participate in in-service education.
