ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN FINANCE BOARD The Campaign Finance Board is a nonpartisan, independent city agency that empowers New Yorkers to have a greater impact on their elections. Our mission is to make local democracy more open, transparent, and equitable by removing barriers to participation.
We make it easier for New Yorkers to vote, meaningfully support candidates for city office, and run for office themselves. NYC Votes, our voter engagement initiative, meets people where they are to share trustworthy election information and help New Yorkers make a plan to vote. We publish the citywide Voter Guide, which delivers information about candidates directly to voters’ doors. Our public matching funds program ensures small contributions can make a big difference, allowing regular people to run for office by relying on the support of other regular people, not just wealthy donors and special interests. And we lift the veil on how candidates raise and spend money, increasing transparency and accountability in local government.
We believe that when every New Yorker is empowered to participate meaningfully in elections, candidates will better reflect the communities they serve, elected leaders will be more accountable to the public, and New Yorkers will have a democracy they can truly trust.
Public Affairs Division The Public Affairs division engages New Yorkers, informs them about elections, and boosts their participation in the democratic process. We make election information accessible and relevant, increase engagement with underrepresented communities, and cultivate a team that reflects our core values of purpose, curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.
The division includes Marketing and Digital Communications, Community Engagement, Language Access, and Public Relations. Our division’s work includes publishing the citywide Voter Guide, running the official citywide Debates Program, and managing the voter engagement initiative, NYC Votes. Community Engagement Unit works to build partnerships across the city to disseminate voting information, deliver accessible voter education, and conduct direct to voter outreach. Through relationships with community-based organizations as well as on-the-ground voter outreach, this team creates pathways for all New Yorkers to gain trustworthy and accessible information and education around voting and democracy.
We are seeking a manager to lead our Neighborhoods Team, which is a sub-team within our broader Education team. This sub-team builds trusted relationships with community-based partners and delivers in-language voter education to communities with historically low voter turnout. The team focuses on engaging and educating voters who speak a language other than English (LOTE) in priority neighborhoods, including South Brooklyn, Northcentral Queens, the South Bronx, and East New York. The Neighborhoods Team works with community-based organizations, faith-based institutions, libraries, local groups, and other community partners to disseminate key election information and conduct in-depth educational workshops covering topics such as Why Vote, How to Vote, Voting Rights, Campaign Finance, CFB’s Matching Funds Program, and more.
The Manager will be responsible for leading, coaching, and supporting a growing team of neighborhood-based Coordinators and Specialists to execute partnership-building and education delivery across 13 languages. This includes providing individualized supervision and professional development, helping staff navigate challenges, advocating for the resources and support they need to succeed, and creating a team environment where staff feel supported, accountable, and empowered to reach their full potential.
The Manager will also oversee the unique strategies for engagement in each of our priority geographies. They will work closely with the Deputy Director to refine strategy, manage budget, measure impact, and navigate internal collaborations to support the Neighborhoods Team. Additionally, the Manager will cultivate and manage high-profile relationships with coalitions, civic leaders, and institutions serving diverse immigrant populations, ensuring alignment with community priorities and long-term organizational objectives. Lastly, the Manager will be responsible for setting the direction of our curriculum, training, and development, ensuring that the content is accurate, accessible, and relevant to people who speak a language other than English (LOTE). Given these responsibilities, we are looking for someone with strong leadership, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills. This role requires managing multiple experienced staff with distinct strengths, working styles, and needs; understanding the priorities of diverse communities; and navigating complex cross-team projects and collaborations. Success depends on strong people management skills, including the ability to coach and develop staff, provide individualized support, advocate for team needs, and balance care and flexibility with clear expectations and accountability.
The Manager must also be comfortable navigating ambiguity, working through gray areas, and exercising sound judgment in situations that require nuance, discernment, and an appreciation for competing perspectives and priorities. This work relies heavily on interpersonal skills, including empathy, self-awareness, adaptability, and self-accountability. The ability to hold space for others, remain grounded when outcomes are uncertain, and support staff in navigating challenges and learning from setbacks is essential.
We seek to work with someone passionate about voting, contributing to candidate campaigns, and running for office inclusive for those most marginalized in our society. Ideally, this candidate is aware or interested in deepening their understanding of how racism, ableism, classism or other oppressions show up in government systems.
We believe that a diversity of experiences and perspectives will help us build stronger teams. We strongly encourage people of color/the global majority, people that speak a language other than English, LGBTQ people, people with disabilities, and people with other marginalized identities to apply.
