Career Coach- FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Funding Notice: This position is funded through a state-supported grant initiative. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding, annual State General Fund appropriations, and continued program need. Although the College intends to sustain successful outcomes beyond the grant period when feasible, continued funding is not guaranteed.

Salary is based on education and experience.

Anticipated start date: November 1, 2026.

Job Summary
The Career Coach serves as a liaison between College of The Albemarle and Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools to promote career exploration, college readiness, workforce development, and postsecondary enrollment. The position provides career coaching, academic advising, outreach, and transition services that prepare middle and high school students for success in college, military service, apprenticeships, or the workforce. The Career Coach collaborates with students, families, school personnel, College faculty and staff, employers, and community partners to increase educational attainment and career readiness.
The Career Coach receives general supervision from the Director of Admissions and Recruitment. The position primarily serves Northeastern High School and/or Pasquotank County High School, while also supporting H.L. Trigg Community School, Elizabeth City Middle School, River Road Middle School, and other assigned locations as needed.

Student Advising and Career Development

• Provide career coaching, academic advising, and college readiness services to middle and high school students.
• Assist students with career exploration, educational planning, Career and College Promise (CCP), college admissions, financial aid resources, scholarship opportunities, and career readiness activities.
• Develop Career Development Plans and provide individualized guidance to assist students in achieving educational and career goals.
• Maintain proactive communication with students and families to promote student engagement, persistence, and successful transitions beyond high school.

Outreach and Partnership Development

• Coordinate and participate in recruitment, outreach, career awareness, and student engagement activities, including workshops, classroom presentations, parent events, career fairs, campus visits, and industry tours.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with school personnel, College faculty and staff, employers, workforce development agencies, military representatives, and community organizations to expand career awareness and educational opportunities.
• Promote College programs, workforce pathways, and postsecondary opportunities through community engagement and business partnerships.

Program Administration

• Maintain accurate student records, advising documentation, and program data in accordance with college, grant, and regulatory requirements.
• Collect and report data to support grant compliance, institutional assessment, and continuous program improvement.
• Maintain knowledge of college admissions, financial aid, Career and College Promise (CCP), workforce development resources, and applicable educational policies and regulations.
• Participate in required professional development and obtain grant-required certifications, as applicable.
• Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state laws, including FERPA, and College policies governing student records and services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• 3-5 years of professional experience in career development, academic advising, school counseling, workforce development, student services, education, or a closely related field.

Preferred

• Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Experience working in secondary and/or postsecondary education.
• Experience with Career and College Promise (CCP), educational outreach, or student recruitment.
• Experience using Ellucian Colleague (Datatel), PowerSchool, or similar student information systems.

• Knowledge of career development, college admissions, workforce development, and student success practices.
• Knowledge of Career and College Promise (CCP), FERPA requirements, and student support services.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, educators, employers, and community partners.
• Strong organizational, communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, analyze information, and prepare reports.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and student information systems.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in office, classroom, school, College, business, and community settings. Frequent local travel between assigned schools, College campuses, and community locations is required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support recruitment activities, workshops, career fairs, and other College-sponsored events.

Physical Requirements:

Work is primarily performed in an office and educational environment and requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, communicate effectively, operate standard office equipment, travel between assigned locations, and occasionally lift and transport materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
