Job summary

Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) seeks a Career Coach to support Career & College Promise students in Burke County Public Schools. You will act as a liaison between WPCC and high schools, guiding students through career pathways, educational opportunities, and college transition planning.

You will communicate admissions requirements, assist with enrollment, and coordinate with counselors and staff to promote student success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Student Development, Higher Education or closely related field.
  • Minimum one year of experience working with students in an educational setting within the past five years.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel and work evenings, weekends, and overnight as required.
  • Valid driver's license with ability to travel throughout the service area.

About the Position

Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) is seeking a motivated, relationship-focused professional to serve as a Career Coach supporting Career & College Promise (CCP) students in Burke County Public Schools. This position plays a vital role in helping high school students explore career pathways, discover educational opportunities, and successfully transition to college and the workforce.

The Career Coach serves as a liaison between WPCC and Burke County Public Schools, working directly with students, parents, counselors, faculty, and community partners to connect students with academic programs, workforce training, and college resources. Through proactive advising, outreach, and relationship‑building, the Career Coach empowers students to make informed decisions about their educational and career futures while supporting the College’s mission of transforming lives through education.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between Western Piedmont Community College and Burke County Public Schools.
  • Guide high school students in exploring career pathways, educational opportunities, and Career & College Promise programs.
  • Assist students in aligning their personal, academic, and career goals with appropriate academic programs and workforce training opportunities.
  • Communicate admissions requirements, enrollment processes, academic programs, transfer pathways, financial resources, and college services.
  • Support Career & College Promise students with semester enrollment and registration.
  • Develop and maintain regular communication with students while documenting required contacts and activities for reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with high school counselors, instructors, parents, and college personnel to promote student success.
  • Coordinate annual planning activities between participating high schools and WPCC.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports related to student participation and services.
  • Represent WPCC at high schools, community events, college fairs, career events, and outreach activities.
  • Travel regularly between local high schools and the College to provide direct student support.
  • Participate in professional development, campus initiatives, and other duties as assigned.

Required
