Job summary

Forterra is seeking a Navigation Software Engineer to develop and validate localization systems for autonomous vehicles. You will work on real-time sensor-fusion, GNSS processing, and robust navigation even when GNSS is degraded. The role spans validation, field tests, and health outputs for safety functions.

Ideal candidates have strong fundamentals in estimation and C++, with experience across a large codebase. Collaboration with multiple teams and a commitment to learning are essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience developing navigation, state estimation or sensor-fusion software in industry or graduate research.
• BS or MS in Electrical, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or a related field.
• Strong C++ skills and working knowledge of Kalman filtering, INS and GNSS.

Responsibilities

• Be a key member of Forterra's small, dynamic Navigation team.
• Take responsibility for well-scoped pieces of the navigation stack that directly affect vehicle performance.
• Develop and improve sensor-fusion estimators and Kalman-filter-based navigation (EKF/UKF/GSF) integrating IMU, GNSS, Doppler radar and wheel odometry.
• Work on GNSS processing and carrier-phase techniques, integrity monitoring, and spoofing monitoring.
• Conduct validation with log replay and regression metrics, diagnose failures from real vehicle data, and report results against pass/fail tolerances.
• Collaborate with autonomy, safety, perception and vehicle integration engineers; write design notes and participate in code reviews.
