Job summary

Forterra is seeking a Navigation Software Engineer to build and validate localization for autonomous vehicles, spanning sensor fusion, GNSS processing, and Kalman-filter-based estimation. The role covers the full navigation stack and collaboration with autonomy, safety, perception, and vehicle integration teams.

Forterra is a fast-growing company; you will own well-scoped pieces of the navigation stack, develop and tune estimators, and support field testing.

Qualifications

2+ years of experience developing navigation, state estimation or sensor-fusion software.
BS or MS in Electrical, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or a related field.
Strong C++ skills and a working knowledge of Kalman filtering, INS and GNSS.

Responsibilities

Be a key member of Forterra's Navigation team.
Take responsibility for well-scoped pieces of the navigation stack that affect field performance.
Develop and improve sensor-fusion estimators and implement/tune Kalman-filter-based navigation.
Work on GNSS processing, including carrier-phase techniques and integrity monitoring.
Capture vehicle data, run deterministic replays and regression metrics, and report results against tolerances.
Support calibration and field testing of sensors and nav hardware.
Collaborate with autonomy, safety, perception and vehicle integration engineers; contribute design notes and participate in code reviews.
