Job summary
Naval Nuclear Laboratory seeks a systems engineer to influence next-generation battleship propulsion design and ensure seamless integration of propulsion plant features within ship design. You will drive early design choices and coordinate across disciplines to meet fleet requirements.
Successful candidates will apply big-picture thinking, strong technical writing, and effective communication to drive ambiguous tasks to closure while upholding safety and reliability standards for naval
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical/engineering/science field.
- Navy nuclear propulsion experience preferred.
- Strong communication and technical writing abilities.
Responsibilities
- Participate in conceptual studies to inform Navy decisions on propulsion features.
- Support integration of battleship-specific systems into the propulsion plant.
- Develop concepts of operation for a single plant surface combatant.
- Validate design compliance and resolve non-conformances.
- Interface with design yards and Navy representatives to align propulsion with fleet needs.
- Perform system analyses to evaluate design decisions’ impacts.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines for ship-wide propulsion integration.
