Job summary

Naval Station Great Lakes is seeking highly organized individuals to prepare meals for Navy Recruits, Sailors and Staff. You will follow prescribed recipes and schedules, ensuring meals are presented attractively and on time.

Position requires 18+ and base access clearance; HS diploma preferred. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, retirement, sick pay, vacation and holiday pay. Training emphasizes sanitation per HAACP guidelines and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be able to obtain base security clearance.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
• Some food service experience necessary.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and store food following the prescribed recipes and product specifications.
• Ensure food is presented in an appealing and timely manner.
• Assist in food cost and control by progressively cooking, batch cooking, monitoring temperatures.
• Practice excellent food service and sanitation practices in accordance with the HAACP guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness of work areas including daily cleaning and sanitizing of equipment, prep areas and work stations.
• Able to work well independently and as part of a team.
• Report all defective equipment to appropriate Assistant Manager.
• Interact with customers and staff in a courteous manner.
• Other duties as assigned.
