Job summary

Fairbanks Morse Defense is seeking a high-energy, self-starting Field Service Technician to support critical U.S. Navy operations at the Newport News Shipyard.

This full-time role requires a minimum of 2 years in field service with hands-on maintenance and repair experience. The position involves travel to customer sites, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and maintaining thorough service documentation.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in field service, maintenance, and repair of industrial or commercial equipment.
• Technical Skills: Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with proven experience in diagnosing and repairing complex equipment issues.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications in equipment maintenance, mechanical or electrical repair are preferred.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical customers.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and tools, work in various environments, and perform physical tasks as required.

Responsibilities

• Field Service: Travel to customer sites to perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment.
• Diagnosis and Repair: Accurately diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in a variety of equipment.
• Parts Identification: Identify necessary parts and materials required for repairs and maintenance.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and time spent on each job.
• Communication: Explain technical findings and recommendations to engineers and Navy personnel.
• Safety & Compliance: Follow safety policies and shipyard regulations.
