Job summary

The Forest Preserves of Cook County's Conservation & Experiential Programming (CEP) department seeks an experienced Nature Center Coordinator to lead staff and operations across one or more Nature Centers. You will support the Nature Center Director, plan programs, manage scheduling, and ensure engaging experiences for visitors.

You will deliver interpretive programming, supervise staff, oversee ambassador animals, coordinate community outreach, and help develop media and events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education or natural sciences with 4+ years’ relevant programming experience.
  • Associate degree with 6+ years’ relevant programming experience.
  • High school diploma with 10+ years’ relevant programming experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate staff and operations at one or more Nature Centers.
  • Deliver interpretive and outdoor recreation programming on-site and off-site.
  • Co-direct community engagement and outreach at the nature center.
  • Support staff training and development for Naturalists and CEP Assistants.
  • Develop content for program guides, brochures, displays, and interpretive media.
  • Coordinate and oversee operations to provide high-quality visitor experiences.
  • Maintain grounds, facilities, and ambassador animal care.
  • Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and special events planning.
  • Represent the District at meetings, conferences and workshops.
