Job summary

Forty Four, a leading global energy trading organisation, is seeking a Physical Natural Gas Trader to join its Houston trading team. The role focuses on managing and optimising physical gas positions, identifying opportunities and expanding the trading portfolio.

The successful candidate will work on physical trading, transportation optimisation and asset-backed strategies, with potential involvement in forward physical, basis and proprietary trading activities across Gulf Coast markets.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience within the North American natural gas market, with exposure to physical trading, cash markets or asset optimisation.
• Strong understanding of physical natural gas markets, preferably across the Gulf Coast, Southeast or Midcontinent.
• Experience in physical gas trading, cash trading, commercial gas marketing or transportation optimisation.
• Understanding of regional pipeline infrastructure, pricing hubs, basis markets and natural gas fundamentals.
• Ability to identify commercial opportunities and manage physical positions effectively.
• Strong analytical skills, commercial judgement and an understanding of market and operational risk.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to operate effectively within an established trading team.

Responsibilities

• Manage and optimise physical natural gas positions across the Gulf Coast, Southeast or Midcon markets.
• Execute day-to-day physical gas trading activities, including cash trading, transportation optimisation and portfolio management.
• Identify trading opportunities arising from regional supply and demand dynamics, pipeline constraints and market fundamentals.
• Optimise transportation capacity, storage and other contractual or physical assets to maximise portfolio value.
• Develop and maintain relationships with producers, utilities, marketers, pipelines and other market participants.
• Work closely with scheduling, origination, risk and commercial teams to support trading activities.
• Analyse regional pricing, pipeline flows, production trends and market fundamentals to identify opportunities.
• Support the development of forward physical and basis trading strategies.
• Contribute to the continued expansion of the firm's physical natural gas trading activities.
