Job summary

Aurex Group is seeking a West Natural Gas Trader to join our Houston team. This role targets individuals with a background in physical natural gas trading, cash markets, or short-term trading who want to move into a more speculative, financially focused trading track.

You will analyze Western US gas markets and work with experienced traders and analysts to develop analytics, signals, and trading strategies.

Responsibilities

• Analyze Western US natural gas markets, including supply/demand, pipelines, storage, and pricing dynamics.
• Identify short-term trading opportunities using physical market knowledge to inform financial strategies.
• Collaborate with power traders and quantitative analysts to develop market analytics and signals.
• Develop and refine gas market analytics within the firm’s trading framework.
• Advance the firm’s natural gas trading capabilities by integrating physical fundamentals into analytics.

We are partnered with a commodities firm seeking to add a West Natural Gas Trader to it's Houston team. This opportunity is particularly suited to someone with a background in physical natural gas trading, cash markets, or short-term gas trading who is looking to transition into a more speculative, financially focused trading role.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze Western US natural gas markets, including regional supply and demand, pipeline flows, transportation constraints, storage, and pricing dynamics.
• Leverage physical market knowledge to identify short-term trading opportunities and inform financial trading strategies.
• Work closely with experienced power traders and quantitative analysts to develop and refine gas market analytics, models, and trading signals.
• Contribute to the continued buildout of the firm's natural gas trading capabilities, incorporating physical fundamentals into existing analytical infrastructure.
• Develop and execute financial trading strategies, with increasing risk responsibility as experience and performance progress.

Ideal Candidate

• Experience in physical natural gas trading, particularly cash or short-term markets.
• Strong understanding of Western US natural gas infrastructure, pipeline systems, regional hubs, and market fundamentals.
• Ability to interpret physical market developments and understand their implications for natural gas pricing.
• Commercially minded, analytically capable, and interested in developing a speculative trading skillset.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, entrepreneurial trading environment.
• Motivated to take on greater trading responsibility and build a track record over time.

Prior experience running a speculative trading book is not required. We are particularly interested in individuals who have developed strong physical market knowledge but have had limited opportunities to take financial trading risk.
