Job summary

Southern Oregon University seeks a Native Nations Liaison to advance recruitment, retention, and education for Native/Indigenous students. The role guides sovereignty advocacy and works with the President, Dean of Students, and Government Relations.

Responsibilities include coordinating recruitment activities, supporting Native student programs, and collaborating with campus partners. A Bachelor's degree is required; a graduate degree is preferred; travel and background checks apply.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Native/Indigenous communities, including K-12 and college students and parents; Tribes; staff and administrators.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Tribal protocols, cultures, histories, sovereignty, and government relations.
  • Experience in college/university student program coordination and admissions outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Outstanding communication, emotional intelligence, and program planning/coordination skills.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited higher education institution.

Responsibilities

  • Identify staff and tasks to organize recruitment, retention, and graduation activities for Native students.
  • Participate in Native Connections Scholarships awards.
  • Develop a planning committee for Indigenous Peoples' Day events.
  • Collaborate with university programming to support Native/Indigenous students.
  • Serve on University Committees as assigned.
