Job summary

Northern New Mexico College in Espanola, NM seeks a Native American Center Director to lead campus relations with Native students, tribal governments, and communities. You will oversee student programs, cultural events, and staff, reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The role emphasizes recruitment and retention, collaboration with tribal entities, and program development to support student success, belonging, and leadership across campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
• Two years’ experience working with Native American/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian/First Nation peoples and communities in outreach, advocacy, or programming.
• Two years’ experience in supervisory, leadership, and management roles.
• Preferred: Master’s Degree and experience with Pueblo etiquette and tribal protocol.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall direction and leadership for the Native American Center and related student services.
• Coordinate student advising, tutoring, clubs, and cultural events; manage staff and budgets.
• Engage with Tribal Education Directors, Native communities, and organizations as a college liaison.
• Develop recruitment and retention strategies; support student success and wellbeing across campus.
• Assess programs, collaborate with campus partners, and contribute to policy and training for staff.
• Maintain MOUs with Tribal entities and oversee Native American student scholarships.
