Job summary

War on the Rocks is seeking a detail-oriented managing editor to join our editorial team in the Washington, DC metro area. This hybrid role requires in-office work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and relocation to or residence within the DC area.

The managing editor will oversee the publication and editorial process for commentary, stewarding articles from submission through publication, and editing for argument, structure, clarity, and style.

Qualifications

• Five years of editorial experience demonstrated by past wordsmithing
• Five years of professional defense/foreign policy experience (excluding grad school)
• Exceptional attention to detail and editorial judgment
• Passion for developing and maintaining organized editorial processes
• Ability to produce excellent work under short deadlines while managing longer-term projects
• Exceptional command of written English and ability to improve prose clarity
• Ability to work collegially with authors and colleagues
• Flexibility to take on diverse responsibilities in a small team
• Right to work in the United States

Responsibilities
