Job summary

U.S. News & World Report invites an early-career journalist to contribute to national digital news, education newsletters, and rankings stories.

You will learn our brand of journalism, optimize for SEO, and produce illustrated articles in our CMS, with strong social media responsibilities and potential data visualization work. The role supports newsletters and news coverage, with 37.5 hours/week in a hybrid DC or NY office.

Qualifications

• 3 hyperlinked writing samples on resume or portfolio link.
• Recent grads and grad students encouraged to apply.
• Must be enrolled in a graduate program; part-time or full-time student.
• Internship requires 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday.
• Hybrid schedule from Washington, D.C. or New York office.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and professionalism.
• Team-oriented and collaborative.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with Canva and social platforms; graphic design skills a plus.
• GPA 3.0 or above preferred.

Responsibilities

• Research topics, interviewees, dates for newsletter content.
• Conduct outreach and interviews for items.
• Perform fact-checking and copy editing.
• Assist with launches (Best Countries/Best States) if/when they occur.
• Produce articles via CMS.
• Create and post videos for social media; visual posts for Instagram/TikTok.
• Collaborate with data team to build visualizations when needed.
• Assist with research or administrative tasks.
