Job summary

NAMI Texas in Austin is seeking a Training Coordinator (32 hrs./week) to support the Program Director in ensuring efficient operations, communications, programs and trainings across Texas. The role enhances capacity of affiliate staff, volunteers, and potential volunteers to expand community programs statewide.

Responsibilities include coordinating trainings, securing sites, Zoom setups, materials, and participant recruitment, with strong collaboration across NAMI National and local affiliates.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to NAMI Standards of Excellence and operating policies to ensure high quality programs.
  • Serve as an expert in NAMI Signature Programs.
  • Coordinate trainer trainings with advertising, sites, lodging, and transport.
  • Set up trainings on Zoom and share information with participants.
  • Order materials and recruit/coordinate participants, supporting State Trainers.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with NAMI National, affiliates, volunteers and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical assistance and respond to affiliate requests.
  • Maintain program records and reporting.

Job description

Job Title: Training Coordinator (32 hrs./ week)

Compensation: $30 per hour

Organization Description:

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Texas (NAMI Texas) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded by volunteers in 1984. NAMI Texas is affiliated with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and has 25 local NAMI affiliates throughout Texas. NAMI Texas has nearly 2,000 members including individuals living with mental illness, family members, friends, and professionals. Its purpose is to help improve the lives of people affected by mental illness through education, support, and advocacy. NAMI Texas offers a variety of education and support programs addressing the mental health needs of Texans and designed for individuals living with mental illness, family members, friends, professionals, other stakeholders and the community at large.

Position Summary:

The Training Coordinator will report to and support the Program Director to ensure efficient and effective operations, communications, programs and trainings with the ultimate goals of helping to support affiliate staff, volunteers and potential volunteers in increasing the capacity of programs local NAMI affiliates are able to offer in communities across Texas.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to NAMI Standards of Excellence and NAMI National Education Programs Operating Policies and Procedures for the purpose of ensuring the development and sustainability of high quality programs across the state. These programs include: NAMI Family to Family, NAMI Basics, NAMI Peer to Peer, NAMI In Our Own Voice, NAMI Connection Support Group, NAMI Family Support Group, NAMI Ending the Silence, NAMI Provider Education, NAMI Homefront, NAMI Compartiendo Esperanza, NAMI Sharing Hope, NAMI Sharing Your Story with Law Enforcement, and other programs as may be added as a part of the work of NAMI Texas
  • Serve as an expert in the above NAMI Signature Programs.
  • Support the coordination of program leader trainings by working in conjunction with the Program Director on the following: advertising about trainings, securing training site, lodging, and transportation for training, securing State Trainers, Set up trainings on ZOOM and send training information to the participants, ordering materials, gathering interested participants, interviewing potential participants or having State Trainers do the interviewing, provide support to the State Trainers, make sure the participants complete the online pre-training before training, and provide affiliate support
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with NAMI National, and local affiliates, volunteers , and community stakeholders.
  • Provide technical assistance to individuals who receive training in the education programs listed above. Respond to individual requests for technical assistance from affiliates.
  • Provide assistance to the public that search for support and education classes in their community through email requests.
  • Maintain all program records and report accordingly.

Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Requires knowledge of management principles and structure of nonprofit organizations;
  • Requires the ability to lead and manage a safe, positive working environment;
  • Preferred bilingual in English and Spanish;
  • Requires ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
  • Requires ability to organize and prioritize work effectively;
  • Requires ability to work after standard business hours and/or on weekends;
  • Requires the ability to effectively mold and communicate a message that will maintain NAMI Texas' public image in a positive light;
  • Requires the ability to maintain a calm composure during times of high stress and anxiety;
  • Requires the ability to work in teams that may contain multiple personalities, work ethics, and competencies;
  • Requires knowledge of PC, Windows, Mac OS, and corresponding software programs; and
  • Preferred knowledge of mental health and common mental health conditions.

Education and/or experience:

  • Working knowledge of the ability to interact with professionals, mental health stakeholders, leaders, individuals with mental illness and their family members
  • Minimum experience of at least one year in a similar position (preferred)
  • Bilingual English / Spanish (preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred)

Other Licenses/Certificates:

  • Requires valid Driver's License
