Job summary

Fluidstack is seeking a power systems engineer to design the medium-voltage network that carries power from generation blocks to the data halls in our Austin data centers. You will define bus arrangements, switchgear, and protection schemes to support scalable, reliable compute.

You will build ETAP/PowerTools and PSCAD models, verify load flows and short-circuit results, and translate requirements into standard designs that others can reuse across sites.

Qualifications

• Experience building ETAP/PowerTools models for MV networks and producing load flow, short-circuit results.
• Ability to model switching, energization, or islanded events in PSCAD and justify design choices.
• Experience setting protection philosophy and relay settings for low fault current systems.

Responsibilities

• Design MV distribution from generation blocks to data halls, standardizing bus, transformer and switchgear layouts.
• Define block energization sequences and site interfaces to enable rapid deployment with minimal outages.
• Perform load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, and protection coordination studies per site layout.
• Specify and defend protection settings and grounding designs for inverter-dominated networks.
• Translate engineering requirements into repeatable standards used across multiple sites.
