Job summary

Santa Clara University is seeking a Temporary Quarterly Lecturer to serve as Musical Director, Vocal Coach, and Rehearsal Accompanist for Winter and Spring 2027. The role includes music direction for Spring Awakening, recruiting and leading the show orchestra, and coaching vocal performances within a liberal arts theatre program.

The successful candidate will conduct auditions, lead seven weeks of rehearsals, and work with the director, choreographer, and design faculty to realize the production

Qualifications

• Terminal degree (Ph.D./MFA) in Theatre or Music. ABD or Master’s with commensurate experience (5–7 years) will be considered.
• Two years of university teaching or commensurate professional teaching experience.
• Ability to work with department director, choreographer, designers, technical director and a student work crew.
• Excellent communication, collaborative work style, and strong organizational skills.
• Commitment to teaching theatre through production in a liberal arts context.

Responsibilities

• Teach THTR 29/129 Rehearsal and Performance, up to two courses per quarter/year.
• Conduct auditions and callbacks for student cast as scheduled in Winter quarter.
• Conduct and accompany seven weeks of evening rehearsals.
• Identify and secure show orchestra and necessary contracts for the run.
• Attend design and production meetings and all-day tech rehearsals.
• Conduct and play keyboards for the run of the show (7 performances).
• Fulfill other instructional duties as assigned by Dean/Chair.
