Job summary

Presidio Knolls School in San Francisco seeks a Spring Production Musical Director to lead the middle school musical. You will teach vocal parts, accompany with piano, and adapt music for varied student abilities while maintaining a joyful, inclusive rehearsal environment.

The role begins in November 2026 with a 3–6 hour weekly schedule, primarily after school hours, and culminates with tech week and performances in March. A collaborative relationship with the Theater Director is essential.

Qualifications

• Strong piano skills with experience accompanying young singers.
• Ability to read music and teach vocal parts, melodies, harmonies, rhythm, and other musical elements of a production.
• Experience with elementary/middle school students in musical theater or music education.

Responsibilities

• Lead music rehearsals for student cast, teaching parts, melodies and rhythms.
• Accompany students on piano during rehearsals, auditions, and performances.
• Transpose or simplify music to fit vocal ranges and abilities.
• Attend 1–3 rehearsals per week and auditions on set dates, reporting to Theater Director.
• Collaborate with Theater Director on musical prep, priorities, and production needs.
• Ensure a positive, inclusive, age-appropriate rehearsal environment.
• Communicate progress and needs to the Theater Director.
