Job description

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for the subject and level assigned
  • Demonstrated competency in the core or required academic subject area assigned
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district's curriculum requirements and show written evidence of preparation
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of students' learning styles and needs
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with IEPs
  • Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers
  • Use technology to enhance the teaching and learning process
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities
  • Be a positive role model supporting the mission of the school district
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' development
  • Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and handbook
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials as appropriate
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
  • Use effective communication skills to present information clearly
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Participate in staff development activities
  • Stay informed of and comply with regulations and policies
  • Maintain reports, records, and other documents timely
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervise assigned teacher aides
