Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for the subject and level assigned
- Demonstrated competency in the core or required academic subject area assigned
- Knowledge of subjects assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district's curriculum requirements and show written evidence of preparation
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations
- Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of students' learning styles and needs
- Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with IEPs
- Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers
- Use technology to enhance the teaching and learning process
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities
- Be a positive role model supporting the mission of the school district
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' development
- Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and handbook
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials as appropriate
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
- Use effective communication skills to present information clearly
- Maintain confidentiality
- Participate in staff development activities
- Stay informed of and comply with regulations and policies
- Maintain reports, records, and other documents timely
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise assigned teacher aides
