Job description

Position: Middle School Teacher - Choir/Band Music

Location: Nicollet Middle School

Hours/Day: 8 hrs/day

Days/Year: Per Teacher Contract

Compensation/Benefits: Burnsville Education Association Contract

Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate Middle School Teacher specialized in Choir/Band Music who actively encourages and embraces each member of the school community. The ideal candidate will foster a supportive environment that promotes individual growth and a love for learning, while continually working to understand their own assumptions and biases to positively impact the learning environment. They will make a commitment to valuing and managing cultural differences, preparing students for future challenges through adventurous exploration and rigorous academics, and developing a culture of trust involving students, families, and staff in decision-making processes. Fostering student agency and guiding students towards their passions are essential aspects of this role.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Actively encourage and embrace each member of the school community
2. Create a sense of support that fosters individual growth and pursuit of learning
3. Continuously work to understand your own assumptions and biases and how they impact the learning environment
4. Value and manage cultural differences, adapting education to meet each student's needs
5. Prepare students for future challenges through exploratory and rigorous academics
6. Develop a trusting culture involving students, families, and staff in decision-making
7. Foster student agency to personalize learning experiences
8. Create daily experiences that lead students to discover their passions and purpose

License / Education Requirements:

• MN 5-12 or 7-12 Teaching License in specific content area
• Experience working cross-culturally or a commitment to improving cultural competence, valuing diversity, recognizing personal limitations, and a desire to learn in these areas
