City of Mansfield, Texas Municipal Government is seeking a part-time Museum Clerk to support the Man House Museum and Mansfield Historical Museum. The role welcomes visitors, leads tours, assists with exhibits and educational activities, and supports research.

The schedule requires working Fridays and Saturdays, with regular Saturday hours, in a two-museum setting. Candidates should have strong customer service and interest in local history.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to classify antiques, documents, and other historical items.
• Willingness to take part in continuing education in museum studies and historic preservation.
• One year of experience in museum studies or museum work is preferred.
• Knowledge of historical research and educational display design techniques is preferred.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations that apply to museum operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Visitor Services - Serve as the point of contact for museum visitors in person and by phone; answer questions, help with patron information needs, and look after visitor safety while on site.
• Tours - Lead guided tours of the Man House Museum.
• Educational Programs and Events - Assist with educational programs and activities, and help plan, organize, and carry out special events.
• Historical Research - Assist with historical and genealogical research; help patrons locate information in books, periodicals, and electronic resources.
• Exhibits - Assist with changing exhibits and organizing exhibit materials.
• Collections and Records - Compile and organize historical documents that are donated or on loan, such as family files, newsletters, and photographs.
• Care of Historical Furnishings - Provide care and housekeeping for historical furnishings and museum spaces.
• Related Duties - Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
