Requirements
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Available to work Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with flexibility for occasional special events.
  • Has the ability to follow all rules, regulations and ethics conduct as set forth by the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Grove City.
  • Has the ability to demonstrate good public relations when dealing with the general public, and other city employees, while positively encouraging participants’ involvement of offered programs.
  • The City of Grove City is a Drug Free Workplace. All candidates who receive an offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for commonly used drugs, including marijuana.

This is a part-time position to be scheduled a maximum of 28 hours per week.

The Museum Assistant will have the following duties under the appropriate immediate supervisor:
  • Serves as public contact, addressing questions and concerns about museums, displays, historical sites, and exhibits.
  • Conducts research related to museum exhibits and collections.
  • Provides engaging and informative tours of historical sites.
  • Supports process of obtaining donations and/or loans of historical items.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Follows departmental rules, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and public relations abilities.
  • Enjoys working with people and providing excellent customer service.
  • Follows all directions from the lead museum staff.
  • Complies with all job safety requirements and OSHA standards.
  • Opens and closes facilities during assigned shifts.
  • Monitors and enforces museum rules and regulations.
  • Restocks supplies in bathrooms and kitchen areas as needed.
  • Completes and submits required documentation.
  • Upholds all departmental and city policies and ethical standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Obeys and promptly executes all orders of the Administrative Assistant.

The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); ascends and/or descends stairs; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects 30 lbs or less.

Note:In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered light work.
