Job summary

The University of Kansas in Lawrence is seeking a Student Outreach & Events Assistant, a university student who will help deliver themed programs and assist in planning public events like Discovery Days. Responsibilities include facilitating activities, coordinating groups, and developing outreach ideas for community partners.

Candidates must be available on weekdays, some evenings, and weekends, possess a valid driver’s license, and be able to lift up to 30 lbs and work outdoors as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to speak with ease in front of groups, as evidenced by application materials.
• Ability to interact with people of all ages with enthusiasm and patience, as evidenced by application materials.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, as evidenced by applications materials.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, as evidenced by application materials.
• Ability to work up to 10 hours per week with flexible availability including some evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate hands-on activities and manage groups of visitors, including children and parents.
• Move and setup activities, specimens, tables and chairs, and communicate information clearly.
• Generate new and creative ideas for programs and events.
• Maintain clear communications with the Outreach & Engagement Coordinator about needs, planning and schedule changes.
